Bonta Gelato, Downtown Bend
A modern scoop shop in a historic, downtown Bend building.
A full interior reimagining of the original Bonta Gelato downtown location, a Bend institution.
Bonta came back to Blue Forty for their downtown renovation. We designed the shop on Galveston Ave., in Bend, establishing the visual and material language for this space — now the first full application of those brand guidelines in the location where Bonta started.
The scope was ambitious for the footprint: a complete interior transformation of 735 square feet, built out in 10 days. Not business days. Ten days. Custom fabrication throughout: furniture, a wooden topography sculpture, a steel partition wall, a toppings display, and product shelving, all designed and built in collaboration with Ben Hull of Connell Hull Company.
The result speaks for itself. In 2025, after project completion, Bonta Gelato was voted Oregon's #1 ice cream by Yelp. Good design and good gelato, it turns out, are not unrelated.
