M's Bakery
A brick-and-mortar home for a local favorite.
M's Bakery needed a space that could hold two things at once: a working production bakery and a retail experience worthy of the following they'd already built.
The design draws from traditional Mexican architecture and color — warm, tactile, specific — while staying grounded in the Pacific Northwest context where M's has made its home. Plaster walls anchor the interior, their texture and warmth doing exactly what good materials do: making a building belong to the space it occupies.
The floor plan is built around function as much as atmosphere. The space serves double duty as storefront and production kitchen, with layout decisions made to support both. At the entry, a curved funnel manages the crowds M's regulars know well; it's crowd control that doesn't look like crowd control.
At 1,729 square feet, the layout works hard, giving a beloved neighborhood bakery a functional new home in Bend's Old Mill District.
